SATURDAY APRIL 1, 2012

Remember, I eliminated February 29 as a proper candidate for our Leap Year Day and moved it to June 31 where the extra day will be more appreciated so that makes today April 1, 2012 on the Sheenian Calendar.

SO.............APRIL FOOL!

An early Saturday Smile...

I love being up early on a weekend, Brendan still in bed, listening to the quiet sounds outside (before the traffic picks up and drowns out everything....next house will definitely NOT be on a busy street!!). Sometimes I sit here with my coffee and I hear a certain bird that reminds me of a bird I'd hear out at the cottage...I don't know why, I'm sure it's not a bird that was ONLY found on Wolverine Lake. But it just seems so, and it reminds me of being at the cottage. Just now I heard a sound...I don't know if it was a bird or something else...but it sounded for all the world like the creaking of that old swingset we had out there. You all know that distinctive sound! Before the days of huge jungle gyms...a simpler time, a simpler swingset. It made me feel very cozy, and it made me smile. Happy Saturday.

The Downside of Spring

Yesterday I thought I was getting sick. Just felt hazed and out of it. It didn't occur to me to think about the fact that it's been warm and windy like crazy lately. Or that at the end of my long run on Sunday up Waterton Canyon I was covered in dust.

Then last night I kept waking up. My eyes would be itchy, nose stuffed up and coughing. It would settle down and I'd fall back asleep - only to wake up about 20mins later with the same thing.

At about 4am I put it together that it coincided with the furnace (forced air) kicking on and the duct right by my bedside giving me a new dose of whatever has settled into our air ducts. We run high allergy filters, but the windy weather probably blew a bunch of stuff all over the house from outside and it hasn't gotten filtered out yet.

I'm mildly allergic to a bunch of things (including some foods) - but grass, cottonwood trees and ragweed can absolutely put me in a catatonic state in a matter of minutes.

Thank goodness for Sudafed. I feel much better today.
