Hats Off For Shoes
My feet wish to thank the following people, Kevin, Terry, Katie, and the girl at Hanson's Running Shop. Either I have long walked and ran in shoes too small, or my feet got bigger with age. Either way, I now own another comfortable running shoe. Katie is the first to tell me I never spend decent money on myself, and always encourages me to do so. I retort that if I had decent money, I'd spend it. Nonetheless, since I spent a chunk of change on a recent auto repair, and I really needed a pair of shoes that wouldn't hurt my feet. I coupled this with a psychic who warned me years ago to always take good care of my feet; I guess I can let the rest of my body go to pot, but my feet, NO WAY, BUDDY!!! All said and done, I decided to buy a new pair of shoes. Jes a pies-achh, eh? Yes, I know that's spelled incorrectly:) Well, the last time Terry saw my feet in my old Asics, although he saw wear on the shoe, he was quite frank and correct about me getting shoes that were too small. The way he put it was, "They're not suppose to fit like hockey skates." So, I went to DSW, where I had bought my last pair. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you view this, I had Jim and Ed with me. Needless to say, I walked out of there after 20 mins of looking at Asics, Saucony, Nike, Fila, and Mizuno, without an inkling of what to get, nor even trying on a couple of pair. The boys weren't really bad, they were just a 4 and 6 year old in an open store, and were bored. I proceeded online, and after a half hour of searching sites, brands, and styles, decided to bring out the big guns. I shot an email to one of my big marathon running brothers. Kevin ran through a rigmarole of advice and thought it best if I sought out specialty running store. I laughed. I never even thought there was such a place, let alone heard of any. Of course Kevin was correct. I searched them online and got a couple listed in my area, within 25 miles. Of course I ventured to the closest, in GPW, Hanson's Running Shop. This particular place was cramped but loaded with a butt load of shoes, as well as seemingly knowledgeable sales people. The girl who helped me out, was a college girl who fit the running bill. I already was thinking going in, that if I walked in a found a bunch of overweight, pretentious sales snobs, I was out the door. This girl not only goes to WSU, my Alma mater, but also has a brother living in Colorado Springs. Beat that! She observed my feet, gait, and stride, and I tried on 6 different pair. In the end, I was happiest with the shoes above; Brooks Adrenaline GTS. If you know these shoes, you might say she saw me coming, and maybe she did. However, I got them for less than they were listed online, and I was happy to spend my gambling profits on such a worthwhile piece of equipment for my feet. I already took them for a 2.2 mile spin, and my feet love them. Thank everyone for their part. My hats off to you, for my shoes...and my feet:?)

How can you go wrong in a place run by the Hansons???? Were they brothers?
ReplyDeleteAbout time you finally took care of your feet and got some decent shoes. I admit I got slightly dizzy when I saw "DSW" in your blog, as I have spent many hours (and many dollars) there, but you were right to go to a specialty store. Many Happy Years of Good Footwear to you. I totally support money spent on shoes.
Glad to hear it. Yeah, you should usually buy running shoes a half size higher than street shoes - your feet swell a little when you run. And your experience with the staff is spot on. The folks that work in running stores all love to run, and are generally in better shape than the general public. And good runners are too geeky to be snobs.
